Bayern Munich defeats Qatar’s national team

German giants FC Bayern Munich have defeated the national team of Qatar in a friendly match at the Allianz Arena on Friday. The Bundesliga outfit won the match through a lone goal by 17-year old youngster Nikola Jelisic.

Bayern coach Jupp Heynckes had to do without thirteen players who are away on international duty for their respective national teams. Heynckes fielded various youngsters from the 2nd and U19 team, besides his remaining senior players including experienced Bastian Schweinsteiger and new signing Javi Martínez.

Schweinsteiger and Martínez were left out from the national team squads and therefore both players enjoyed sweating it out against Qatar. Schweinsteiger is still recovering from his injuries, while Martínez is getting a few additional days to adjust to his new club.

The duo played the full 90 minutes against Qatar and Nikola Jelisic scored the winner for the hosts in the 45th minute.

The Qatari national team is currently in Munich for a 2014 FIFA World Cup preparation camp and the friendly match was arranged on short notice.

The match against Qatar has been Bayern’s third game against a national team in this on-going year. The Germans defeated the Indian national team in January [4-0 | + read more details] besides winning an exhibition match against the Netherlands in May [3-2 | +read more details].
