East Bengal Club have defeated reining I-League champions Dempo SC to win the 34th Federation Cup 2012 in a closely contested final.

Dempo skipper Climax Lawrence opened the scoresheet in the 51st minute off a throw-in by Debabrata Roy.

But East Bengal quickly levelled the score just nine minutes later when a well-placed header by Arnab Mondal found the back of the net.

Both teams failed to decide the match in their favour in regulation time and the final went on into extra-time.

Young India striker Manandeep Singh put the Kolkata side in the lead and gave the “Red & Gold” camp an advantage in the remaining minutes of the game.

Chidi Edeh finally sealed the win for East Bengal with a fine finish to the delight of the East Bengal fans, although Mahesh Gawli pulled one back to reduce the margin two minutes later.
