Shillong outfit Royal Wahingdoh opened their campaign in the 2nd Division I-League 2013/14 in style. The club registered a 9-2 victory over Delhi’s Garhwal FC at the Railway Stadium in Dhanbad on Friday.

Wahingdoh forward Jackichand Singh scored a hat-trick for his side in the 26th, 47th and the 79th minute. His second goal of the game – a 40-yard long ranger – was the talking point of the game.

Although Garhwal pulled one back through Monu Choudhary in the 75th minute, it was all a herculean task for the Delhi outfit to try and record even a draw at that moment, as the score read 6-1 in favour of Wahingdoh.

The win made them go atop of Group A with three points – two points clear of Kalighat Milan Sangha FC and PIFA Sports FC, who recorded a 1-1 draw in their game in the morning.

In Group B, Kolkata outfit Bhowanipore FC recorded a 4-0 victory over Kenkre Sports FC at the Paljor Stadium in Gangtok, and in the process, also topped the table.

The other match of the group saw Aizawl FC engage in a 1-1 draw with Kerala outfit Eagles FC in the same venue.
