Felix Magath has been appointed as First Team Manager of English Premiership side Fulham FC. The announcement was made jointly by Chairman Shahid Khan and CEO Alistair Mackintosh on Friday evening.

The 60 year old German gaffer has signed an 18-month contract and he will be in charge of the team with immediate effect. Magath, a former German international (43 caps / 3 goals), has coached various teams in Germany.

Magath has won the Bundesliga title twice with Bayern Munich (2005, 2006) and once with VfL Wolfsburg (2009). He also led Bayern to cup glory in the DFB-Pokal in 2005 and 2006, which secured the German giants the national double and made Magath the only coach to claim the German double.

“I am very happy to welcome Felix Magath to Fulham Football Club. Felix is an accomplished manager with multiple honours in the Bundesliga and a hunger to replicate his success with Fulham in the Barclays Premier League,” Fulham’s Pakistani-born American billionaire businessman Shahid Khan stated in an official release by the club. “I’m especially impressed with the reputation Felix has for coming into clubs at difficult times, often late in the season, and lifting them to their potential and beyond. Felix knows that is precisely the task awaiting him at Fulham, and he made it abundantly clear that he wants and is ready for the opportunity.”

“Our Club has shown promise in recent matches, but the fact is we have not won a league match since January 1. Given our form, we can no longer merely hope that our fortunes will finally turn. And with 12 matches remaining and at least four points separating us from safety, we certainly can no longer post empty results. Action was required.”

“Alistair Mackintosh did a wonderful job during the January transfer window to improve our Club. This week, Alistair recommended Felix, with his history of producing results for Clubs with similar challenges as ours, as the new manager of Fulham. Alistair’s recommendation received my complete approval and Felix has my unequivocal support,” Khan added.

Felix Magath himself released a statement on his official Facebook page saying, “Dear Faceook friends and fans, here we go again, I’m returning to football.”

“I’m the manager of Fulham FC with immediate effect, I will work in the Premier League. A fantastic work environment for any coach and footballer.”

“This long-standing, great club and his owner Shahid Khan have fully convinced me and they assigned me the responsibility as the manager. I would like to thank the club and the owner for their confidence.”

“I’m looking forward to London and its people, especially the fans and employees at Fulham FC and my coaching staff and the team.”

Felix Magath will be the first German manager in the English Premier League history.
