Former France and Arsenal star Robert Pirès is the latest famous name to join the new Hero Indian Super League (ISL).

“I am very happy to be part of the new League when passion for football in India is on the rise,” the 40-year-old winger and attacking midfielder told in an official statement released by the ISL today.

“It will be great to play in front of the enthusiastic Indian fans as well as share all my knowledge with my team mates.”

Pirès earned 79 caps for France including winning both the 1998 FIFA World Cup and the UEFA Euro 2000. The Frenchman started his career at FC Metz, before he continued at Olympique de Marseille, Arsenal FC, Villarreal CF and Aston Villa.

Pirès has won three FA Cups and two Premier League titles with Arsenal including the club’s famous unbeaten season of 2003–04.

The Frenchman is the second Arsenal legend to join the Indian Super League after Fredrik Ljungberg.
