Santosh Trophy: Assam v Services

Santosh Trophy: Assam v Services

Services kept the momentum of their good run as they blanked Assam in the 69th National Football Championships for the Santosh Trophy 2015 at Guru Nanak Stadium, Ludhiana this evening. Services registered a 3-0 win against Assam.

The Services team dominated the proceedings right from kick-off. Skipper Anthoy Chettri, Arshpreet, Vibin Tudu and Mawia built the defense line, while Francis, Jain P and Arjun Tudu led them upfront.

The Services took the lead in the 11th minute, when Francis provided a well measured pass to Jain P, who made no mistake to slot it home.

Assam were kept busy in their own half, while their goalkeeper pulled out superb saves to deny the Services more goals in the first half.

Services continued to control the match in the second half and Arjun Tudu increased the lead with a wonderful goal in the 48th minute.

Tudu sealed the win for the Services with his second goal of the match in the 54th minute. Services top the table with seven points to their account.

Meanwhile, Delhi and Goa played out a goalless draw in a Group B encounter at the Guru Gobind Singh Stadium, Jalandhar. Delhi combined well and exhibited some good football, while Goa came close to score on two three occasions.

The Santosh Trophy continues on Saturday, as West Bengal take on hosts Punjab at the Guru Nanak Stadium, Ludhiana and defending champion Mizoram test last year’s runners-up Railways at the Guru Gobind Singh Stadium, Jalandhar.
