The spirits of Mumbai’s future star footballers was tested with the non seasonal March showers, as St. Pius Sports Ground became the brightest place in a drizzly Mumbai on Sunday.

With trophies for the Mumbai Rush Soccer Champions League 1 on the agenda, players showed up in full force to take the final opportunity to develop and display their skills whilst winning points alongside their friends, and in front of their delighted families.

In the Under-10s, the Red team rounded off with a 100% winning record by defeating second place Royal Blue 3-0 in the final game. Navy Blue team’s Hugo King finished as the age group top-scorer with 12 goals, four ahead of second place Dhruv Pawar with 8.

It was a similar story in the Under-12s as the Red team defeated the Orange’s 3-1 on the final day to cement their 100% winning record. There was a tie at the top of the scorers chart with Moksh Surve and Mir Raza finishing with 7 goals each, one goal ahead of Louis King who came in second.

There was no 100% winning record in the Under-14s, however the Red team did come out as league victors following a final day 3-0 win over the Royal Blues. In a tight age-group, there was also a three way tie for top scorer as Harshad Dhumale, Madan Ghogale and Savio Fernandes all finished with 6 goals throughout the league.

The Orange team became the only non-Red league victors in the Under-17s, as they finished in fine style on the last day with a 3-0 win over the Navy Blues. Amit Lal and Avanish Gupta, both with 6 goals, finished as joint top scorers for the age bracket.

Throughout the tournament Rush Soccer coaches selected players who shone in each game, creating a ‘team of the week’ for each week of the tournament. Under-17 Goalkeeper Jaimeen Shah, Under-12 playmaker Shane Aranha and Under-14 goal-scorer Savio Fernandes showed great consistency by being named to the star teams in all three weeks.
