VfB Stuttgart and Robin Dutt agree to part ways

VfB Stuttgart and their Indian origin Director of Sports Robin Dutt have agreed to part ways as a result to the German side’s relegation to the 2nd Bundesliga.

Dutt and the Supervisory Board had “intense discussions” according to an official statement by the club, where both sides “decided to part ways with immediate effect”.

“We came to an understanding after intense communication, that a break-up with Robin Dutt is the right decision to launch the needed relaunch of VfB (Stuttgart). Robin Dutt had taken charge for the sporting department at VfB during a really difficult time and he has worked for VfB with great dedication. It would be certainly wrong to link the negative developments solely to him,” stated Martin Schäfer, Chairman of the Supervisory Board, VfB Stuttgart. “At the end of the day we are convinced that a redeployment in the sporting department is indispensable to take unburdened and targeted decisions for a reframing.”

Robin Dutt said, “The welfare of the club comes always first. It is the logical decison to part ways as there were different views on the reframing of the club.”

Robin Dutt was appointed VfB Stuttgart’s Director of Sports in January 2015. The 517-year-old German of Bengali roots has also worked as a coach at various clubs including Bundesliga outfits SC Freiburg, Bayer 04 Leverkusen and Werder Bremen. He was also the Director of Sports at the German Football Federation (Deutscher Fußball-Bund – DFB) from August 2012 to May 2013.
