Gurpreet Singh Sandhu has once again claimed a historic first as the Indian national team goalkeeper featured in an European continental club competition match. Gurpreet is the first India-born footballer to achieve this unprecedented milestone.

The 23 year old youngster from Punjab made it to the Stabæk Fotball starting eleven in the UEFA Europa League 1st Round Qualifier away game against Connah’s Quay Nomads FC on Thursday evening (June 30, 2016).

But Gurpreet’s historic debut in the UEFA Europa League came to an unfortunate end due to an hand injury he picked up during the game. He was substituted in the 30th minute and replaced by Ivory Coast international Sayouba Mandé.

The match ended in a 0-0 draw and the return leg will be played in Norway on July 7, 2016.

So happy to reach another milestone by playing in @europaleague but gutted to have it cut short after injuring my hand #proudindian
