Federación Puertoriqueña de Fútbol (FPF)

The Indian national team will host Puerto Rico in an international friendly match at the Mumbai Football Arena (Andheri Sports Complex) in Mumbai on September 3, 2016.

The two national teams have never met each other before and the friendly will be the first ever match outside the (North & South) American continent for a national team from Puerto Rico.

Puerto Rico, ranked 114th in the latest FIFA World Ranking, will take on the Dominican Republic in an away friendly match at the Estadio Olímpico Félix Sánchez in Santo Domingo, before they continue their journey to India for the historic match.

The team coached by Spaniard Carlos García Cantarero will be using the two friendly matches as a preparation for the upcoming 2017 Caribbean Cup Qualifiers scheduled to kick-off in October this year.

“It will be not only the first time that a team from Puerto Rico will be playing a friendly in Asia, but from our point of view it will be an opportunity to showcase Puerto Rican talent to a part of the hemisphere, where leagues pay very good money,” Homero González, President of the National Teams Committee of the Federación Puertoriqueña de Fútbol (FPF) and 2nd Vice President of the FPF told.

The India v Puerto Rico match will be broadcasted live by Star Sports.
