The Mohammedan Sporting Club U-17 team clinched the Sailen Manna & Amal Dutta Memorial U-17 Football Tournament after beating Mohun Bagan AC 9-8 on penalties.

Comprised of boys from the Mohammedan Sporting Club Youth Development Programme, the Under-17 team logged three consecutive wins to clinch the title on Sunday.

The competition, which was organised by the Kalighat Sports Lovers Association, played over two days at Mohun Bagan Ground saw Mohammedan SC U-17s begin their campaign with a narrow 1-0 win over Durbar Sports Academy in the quarterfinals on Friday. The following day they logged a similar 1-0 win over East Bengal Club in the semis to make it to the big final.

Up against Mohun Bagan in the title-decider, the youngsters from the Mohammedan Sporting Club Youth Development Programme outplayed their Kolkata counterparts, but in a match featuring plenty of effort and endeavour, the defences enjoyed the ascendancy to ensure both teams tied at goalless after normal time forcing the contest to be decided on penalties where the Mohammedan Sporting colts proved to be better shooters and prevailed 9-8.

Swapan Banerjee, General Secretary, Bengal Hockey Association alongside other dignitaries was present during the finals.
