Goa Football Association launches the GENO-First Division League

The Goa Football Association (GFA) launched the GENO-First Division League in association with Johncy Restaurant, which will kick off from January 26, 2018, at Sporting Clube hall, Panjim, on Saturday.

Altogether 14 teams will be participating in the event namely Curtorim Gymkhana, Clube Sao Miguel de Taleigao, Goa Police, Goa Velha Sports Club, Holy Cross Sports Club, Velsao Sports and Cultural Club, A A de Moira, Salgaocar FC juniors, Sesa Football Academy Juniors, St Savio SC Calangue, United Club Telaulim, Cuncolim Union, Dempo SC juniors and UC Manora.

Dilip Salgaocar, Chairman of Geno Pharmaceuticals was the chief guest for the function and launched the GENO-First Division League logo in the presence of Sagar Salgaocar, Managing Director of Genoa Pharmaceuticals, Ariston Severes, Owner of Johncy Restaurant and Eduardo, Youth Coach SESA FA, GFA General Secretary Welvin Menezes and other members.

GFA President Elvis Gomes said, “Against the backdrop of the successful women’s league it is encouraging that a corporate has partnered with GFA to support the First Division League. First Division is a very important competition that gives a wider platform to the large number of players in the state, with 14 teams now vying for the honours. I only hope the CM will respond to our request for making grounds available and timely release of grants.”

Speaking on the occasion, Dilip Salgaocar said, “It’s the first time we are being associated with football but we are happy to do so. GFA has given a great platform for the youngsters and they should take this opportunity to their fullest.”

Dilip urged the players to give their best and said, “There will be ups and downs in football but you’ll should not give up and continue giving your best.”

Ariston Severes, the owner of Jonhcy Restaurant (Associate Sponsor) said, “It gives me immense pleasure to be associated with the league and Geno too. It’s my first time too and if things go well according to the plans we will definitely look for further partnership with GFA,”

GFA also removed the draw for the league as the first match will be played on January 26.
