Mizoram Premier League newcomers Chawnpui FC could not hold on to an early lead against Mizoram Police FC on Saturday afternoon as the Police team came out on top in a 2-1 victory in the LG Independence Cup in Aizawl, Mizoram.

A bright start from Chawnpui FC resulted in them finding the back of the net with their first clear cut chance of the game. Vanlalnghenga scoring a sumptuous freekick in the 6th minute.

Chawnpui FC enjoyed a period of dominance early on but they could not add to the scoreline as Vanrammawia Ngente and K. Roluahpuia failed to test Mizoram Police custodian Andrew when they were put through.

Mizoram Police almost pulled one back through Fakawma right before the break but Chawnpui’s Malsawma showed safe hands.

The Mizoram Police team changed shape in the second period and looked threatening on the break. Lalbiakhlua took advantage of such a break and equalised for his team on the 61st minute and Lalfakzuala added another a minute later from a corner by Simon.

To add insult to injury, Chawnpui FC were reduced to 10 men after Lalhlimpuia was sent off three minutes from time.
