Indian Super League franchise FC Goa on Saturday, July 28 launched their own women’s team ahead of the upcoming Vedanta Women’s League.

By launching their women’s team, FC Goa have become the second ISL team after FC Pune City to launch a women’s team besides having their men’s senior team, a developmental squad and youth teams in the Goa football system.

FC Goa technical director Derrick Pereira said, “I am extremely happy that the club is focused towards developing football for men and women in Goa.”

“The women’s team will be built in the same image and with the same principles as the men’s team. The club will work extremely hard towards developing and producing talented women footballers and hope to emulate the successful women that represented the national team from Goa in the 1970’s,” he added.

The team would be coached by FCG grassroots coach Naresh Virnodkar and the FC Goa Women’s team would be training at the Chowgule Sports Centre in Margao for their team commitments.

The eight team Vedanta Women’s Football League is set to kick-off on August 14.
