Bundesliga club Fortuna Düsseldorf has today announced the appointment of Lutz Pfannenstiel as their new sporting director.

The 45 year old former goalkeeper joins the club from Bundesliga rivals TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, where he occupied the position of Head of International Relations, besides scouting for the club since 2011.

“I’ve sensed that Fortuna Düsseldorf is a special club in our very first meeting and that a lot of things can be done,” Pfannenstiel told in an official statement released by the club. “I would like to be part of this and I would like to help Fortuna to establish the club in the Bundesliga. I would like to thank TSG Hoffenheim for opening this chance and that they agreed on the mutually agreed contract termination.”

Pfannenstiel has signed a three-year contract with Fortuna and he is expected to take up employment on December 16.
