Bundesliga’s second-most capped foreigner Naldo joins AS Monaco

AS Monaco has signed Naldo from Bundesliga club FC Schalke 04 with immediate effect. The Brazilian central defender has signed a contract which will keeep him at the Ligue 1 side until June 30, 2020.

“This is a new chapter for me after 14 years in the Bundesliga. I thank AS Monaco for their trust. I will do everything to meet the expectations of the club on and off the pitch. I want help AS Monaco with my experience,” Naldo told in an official statement on the club website.

“Welcome to Naldo, a defender with great experience at the highest level and well known for his leadership qualities. We are convinced that he will be an important asset in our desire to rapidly strengthen the squad,” said Vadim Vasilyev, Vice President, AS Monaco.

Naldo, who also has German citizenship since 2014, started his career at Brazilian clubs RS Futebol Clube and EC Juventude, before Bundesliga side Werder Bremen acquired the services of the tall defender.

He spent seven years at Werder Bremen (2005 – 2012), before he moved on to league rivals VfL Wolfsburg (2012 – 2016) and FC Schalke 04 (2016 – 2018).

The former Brazil international and 2007 Copa América winner has featured in 358 Bundesliga matches to become the second-most cappes foreigner in Bundesliga history and a fan favourite.
