On the important occasion of International Women’s Day, FIFA is pleased to announce that a Global Women’s Football Convention will be held this June in Paris, ahead of the kick-off of the eighth edition of the FIFA Women’s World Cup™ in France.
Taking place on the 6th-7th of June, the first FIFA Women’s Football Convention will assemble leaders from the worlds of sports and politics for the first time, to discuss key issues around the development and empowerment of women in football.
Last year FIFA launched its first-ever Women’s Football Strategy in line with the organisation’s overall strategic road map FIFA 2.0 which aims to grow the game of football, protect its integrity and bring it to all.
The FIFA Women’s Football Strategy is committed to harnessing the power of football and using competitions to highlight the positive social impact the game has on women and girls around the world. These principals were the inspiration behind the convention and its discussions will focus on the five strategic pillars of the FIFA Women’s Football Strategy:
1. Develop and Grow
3. Communicate and Commercialize
4. Govern and Lead
5. Educate and Empower
Speaking about the Global Women’s Football Convention FIFA Secretary General Fatma Samoura said:
“Today, as we unite on International Women’s Day and commit to #BalanceforBetter, I am delighted to announce that FIFA is organising a landmark forum dedicated to women’s football – the Global Women’s Football Convention. It will bring leaders from sport and politics together to discuss furthering diversity and equality, both on and off the pitch. The convention will harness the spirit of the tournament slogan, Dare to Shine, with encouragement and empowerment of the next generation of girls and women at the core of the event. I believe that the future is bright if we use the societal benefits of football, working alongside our stakeholders, to empower women and girls around the world.”
