The final of the Independence Day Celebration Women’s Football Tournament was played at AR Lammual in Aizawl on Saturday evening under floodlights with Vakiria FC winning 3-0 against a valiant NCC FC side.

The much more experienced side Vakiria FC dominated the play early on – C Zairemmawii opened the scoring with a typical strikers goal by quickly converting a half chance leaving NCC FC custodian no chance to react.

Zairemmawii doubled Vakiria FC’s goal by a brilliant freekick from outside the box.

It was a much fitter side NCC who came out stronger in the second half, dominating the midfield and as they outran their opponents, but couldn’t find a meaningful opening in front of goal.

However, it was Vakiria FC who scored against the run of play in the 66th minute with the help of a clever finishing by Indian international player Grace H Lalrampari, who flew home just in time to play the final match from Indian national team’s European exposure trip.

NCC FC had a chance to reduce the margin by could not convert from the spot in the dying minutes. It was Vakiria FC who celebrated after the final whistle with a 100% record from the group stage to claim the coveted trophy.
