FC Bayern donates Sachertorten to care homes

The coronavirus pandemic affects all parts of our social life, with nursing facilities particularly affected. FC Bayern aims to send a signal of solidarity with the elderly and nursing staff. In cooperation with the Bavarian Ministry of Health and Care, FC Bayern staff will donate traditional Sachertorten cakes to around 80 Munich care homes.

“I talked to Health and Care Minister Melanie Huml on the phone a few weeks ago, and we agreed to implement a few campaigns to show people that football fulfils its role responsibly and in an exemplary manner in these hard times,” said FC Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge: “Our project ‘Coffee and cake with FC Bayern’ marks the start.”

The plan is to deliver ten Sachertorten per care home in coordination with the Bavarian Ministry of Health and Care. Karl-Heinz Rummenigge: “The elderly are the most strained in the case of corona, psychologically too. Visits are not allowed, after all. We want to tell them with this gesture: you are not alone. Their carers accomplish great things for our society every day. The job is extremely demanding. They must possess a lot of professional and even more empathetic qualities.”

“Solidarity and community spirit are growing because of the challenges of the coronavirus pandemic,” said Bavarian Health and Care Minister Melanie Huml: “I’m very glad FC Bayern wants to delight about 80 Munich care homes. I’d like to sincerely thank the club for that. FC Bayern wants to show the people the club’s appreciation. It’s important to indicate: ‘We are thinking about the people in care homes, especially in these hard times now, with bans on visitors and other restrictions.’ This campaign is a signal that we’re sticking together.”
