Arminia Bielefeld virtually promoted to Bundesliga following 4-0 win against Dresden

Bundesliga 2

Bundesliga 2 table-toppers DSC Arminia Bielefeld are virtually promoted to the top tier following their 4-0 win against SG Dynamo Dresden at the SchücoArena in Bielefeld on Monday evening. Bielefeld enjoy a commanding lead with 9 points and 18 goals between them and the third place which would take them to the play-offs.

Bielefeld head coach Uwe Neuhaus sounded optimistic about the challenge ahead at the pre-match online press conference, as his side aim to return to the Bundesliga after eleven long years full of ups and downs. “We need to be courageous and emphasize the belief in our own strengths. It’s a mental thing. It is well known that the last few steps are the toughest one,” Neuhaus told. “I can promise, that the team really wants to accomplish it. I’m fully convinced that the team will remain firm to collect the needed points.”

Clauss lays foundation with a wonder goal

One could feel the tension around the match, but Neuhaus’ team didn’t prove him wrong and displayed a very courageous and disciplined performance since the very beginning. The hosts took an early lead in the 10th minute as Marcel Hartel set-up Jonathan Clauss with a wonderful pass. Clauss received the ball with his right foot just to put the ball into the back of net with a beautiful lob over Dresden goalkeeper Kevin Broll.

Bielefeld continued to dominate the proceedings in a match which was played behind closed doors. Patrick Schmidt (23′) had the only opportunity for the visitors, but he was denied by Bielefeld goalkeeper Stefan Ortega Moreno. Andreas Voglsammer (40′) and captain Fabian Klos (44′) could have increased the lead for Arminia Bielefeld, but their attempts missed the target narrowly.

Uwe Neuhaus and his side went into the half-time break with a 1-0 lead.

Brace by Vogelsammer and Klos seals Bielefeld’s win

The second half turned out to be a one-sided affair as Bielefeld continued to display a highly focused game which resulted in more goals for the home side. Voglsammer (62′) hit the target with a powerful shot, while Klos (65′) took advantage of his strong physicality when he kept away Dresden’s Kevin Ehlers to further increase the lead.

Cebio Soukou (87′) sealed a convincing 4-0 win when he started a great dribbling in midfield just to finish it off with a shot from 16 metres which found its way into the back of the net.

Virtually promoted to Bundesliga after eleven years

Bielefeld are virtually promoted to the Bundesliga following the 4-0 win. There is a slight mathematical uncertainty but it looks unrealistic with just three games left and Bielefeld having a comfortable goal difference.

A long eleven year wait is finally coming to an end for the club which had to face several crisis in the past, but always came back strongly with the support of the fans, city, sponsors and partners.
