Mizoram Football Association postpones Mizoram Premier League to 2021

Mizoram Football Association (MFA)

The new season of the Mizoram Premier League will not take place in 2020 as the Mizoram Football Association (MFA) made the decision to postpone it indefinitely until next year.

The MFA Executive Committee Meeting sat today to explore avenues for a successful 2020-2021 football season, as it came to the conclusion of putting its top tier league on hold until next year.

This season’s edition of two prestigious MFA competitions – the MFA Super Cup and Independence Day Football Tournament will also be scrapped due to the Covid 19 pandemic.

The MFA Executive Committee will determine whether it will be viable to hold this season’s Mizoram Premier League next year further down the line.

The MFA has also informed its District Football Associations and Zone Football Associations to cease all competitions until further notice. A Special General Body meeting will be held on July 24 to discuss potential propositions regarding the season for District and Zone FAs.

Issues regarding player transfers during this season, player registration, competitions within the district as well as Inter-District Football Competitions will also be discussed in the Special General Body meeting.

Five competitions that were already in the MFA Calendar could not take place after the disruption of the 2019-20 season by the Covid 19 pandemic. The MFA Cup, Inter Dist Junior Boys, Inter Dist Women Championship, MFA Women’s League and MFA Futsal League were all effectively cancelled as a result of the pandemic.

New District FAs

As a result of the state government setting up three new districts, the MFA will set up a District Football Association in each of Hnahthial, Khawzawl and Saitual. An ad hoc body will be appointed on July 18 until an election can take place.

AIFF Youth League

The MFA is delighted to find Mizoram among the states that the AIFF has targeted for the implementation of the AIFF Youth League within selected states. Two video conferences regarding youth football has already taken place and the MFA is already looking into plans to hold a successful AIFF Youth League in Mizoram.

It will also look to delegate a number of tournaments to the District FA.

MFA Technical Rules

The MFA has also called for revision of its technical rules. The MFA Technical Committee has been appointed for the task in order to broaden the new rulebook.
