1. FC Köln have signed Manjou Wilde for the upcoming season. The FIFA under-20 World Cup winner joins from Bundesliga club SGS Essen.

The squad for the new season back in the FLYERALARM Frauen-Bundesliga continues to take shape. After Jana Beuschlein, Elvira Herzog and Irini Ioannidou, FC have added midfielder Manjou Wilde to the ranks. The 26-year-old has already played for Werder Bremen, SC Freiburg and, lastly, SGS Essen.

Wilde has enjoyed success whilst part of the Germany youth set-up. In 2012, she was under-17 European Champion alongside current FC players, Sharon Beck and Johanne Tietge. Two years later, she was part of the Germany under-20 team that were crowned World Champions after a 1:0 win against Nigeria. Manjou Wilde has 116 appearances in the German top-flight, with seven goals to her name.

FC head coach, Sascha Glass said: “Manjou is a technically strong player with good vision, which we can use across the attacking midfield areas. Across her clubs, she has become a leader and brings a lot of Bundesliga experience and that will help us. We’ve been watching Manjou for a long time and she has absolutely convinced us of her character in our discussions with her.”

Manjou Wilde added: “I wanted to make my next move to a club who have an exciting vision for the future and want to move forward step by step. I have the feeling that there is a feeling of togetherness at FC. I’m very much looking forward to that. I am also impressed by the way Sascha Glass leads his team and drives them on. It’s nice to be able to work with him from the new season onwards.”
