The “Indo-Pak Express” has won the GERRY WEBER OPEN 2011 doubles competition at Halle (Westfalen), Germany. Rohann Bopanna and Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi had the better end in a closely contested match against Robin Haase (NED) and Milos Raonic (CAN).
Bopanna/Qureshi won the coin toss and the Indian Davis Cupper started the first set. Both double teams had no difficulties to win their serves. The first set went into a tie-break, which was won by the “Indo-Pak Express” 10:8.
The second set seemed to be a carbon copy of the first set. But Qureshi lost his serve and Haase/Raonic took the break to give them a 5:3 lead. Raonic did the rest with his serve to finish the second set in favour of the Dutch-Canadian duo.
The final went into a deciding match tie-break and things looked not too good for Bopanna/Qureshi as they went quickly down with a score line of 4:7 in favour of Haase/Raonic.
But the duo entitled “The Peace Double” by the German media showed all their experience and came back strongly to turn things around. Bopanna/Qureshi converted their second match ball and to win the match 7:6, 3:6, 11:9.
The “Indo-Pak Express” will continue their build-up to Wimbledon at the AEGON International Tennis Tournament, Eastbourne.
