Bengaluru FC ease past Rangdajied

I-League: Bengaluru FC v Rangdajied United FC

Bengaluru FC delivered a clinical performance to notch up their first win of the season as they beat Rangdajied United FC 3-0 in their 2nd Round encounter of the Airtel I-League at the Bangalore Football Stadium on Sunday. Man of the Match John Johnson, Sean Rooney and skipper Sunil Chettri scored a goal each for the hosts.

With this win, Bengaluru now have four points from two matches, while the Shillong outfit are yet to open their account after succumbing to their second successive loss in the I-League.

Though the hosts dominated the proceedings right from the beginning, they had to wait till the 33rd minute to break the deadlock. It was the defender Johnson, who headed in a Beikhokhei Beingaichho corner to score the only goal of the first half.

Bengaluru doubled their lead in the 57th minute after Sean Rooney headed home from a perfect cross by Beingaichho from the right flank to score his second goal in as many matches.

In the 67th minute, Chhetri joined the party as he got his name on the score sheet. Chettri and Rooney teamed up well and after exchanging passes, Chettri had just the Rangdajied keeper to beat. And the Indian skipper made no mistake to put the ball past a helpless Shambu Mistry. Bengaluru got a few more chances in the second half, but failed to convert them.

Earlier, it was the hosts that started the game on a positive note. In the third minute itself, Bengaluru could have taken the lead, but an unmarked Chettri’s header went wide of the post. The visitors were under pressure for most of the first half. In the 32nd minute Beingaichho was unlucky not to score a goal, after his header was cleared from the goal line by Rangdajied United FC defender.

Bengaluru FC will now face league leaders United Sports Club in their third round match to be played at the same venue on October 6. United Sports Club has won both their matches so far in the I-League.
