U-19 I-League: Shillong Lajong FC v Green Valley SC

The Junior Reds registered yet another victory in the U-19 I-League North-East Zone qualifiers drubbing the Guwahati-based Green Valley SC 4-0 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Shillong on Tuesday afternoon.

The Reds have remained unbeaten so far in the tournament under the watchful eyes of Coach Alison Kharsytiew, who made a few changes in the starting line-up for today’’ match. Nihal (Goalkeeper) replaced Nitin Meel who is injured and Ksanpukar, Hardy and Nabin were also included in the starting eleven.

Shillong Lajong Juniors dominated throughout the match with the first goal coming as early in the 6th minute when Hardy Cliff Nongbri slotted the ball home from outside the box. Lajong had a big chance in the 24th minute, when Redeem’s cross found Shanbor whose shot went just few inches wide. Ksankupar who scored in the last match found the back of the net in the 29th minute but his superb header was flagged offside.

Nevertheless, confidence was brimming in the home team as they continued with the same momentum and Ksankupar played a good cross to find left-back Rupert Nongrum who also made a good run and flicked the ball which sailed past keeper Mulya Rabha into the left side of the net. The first half ended with a score line of 2-0 in favour of the Reds.

The second half saw the home team pressing hard and also dominated ball possession. Coach Alison’s boys looked more eager for goals and were also the more focussed side. Furthermore, Lajong’s backline did a fantastic job to deny Green Valley’s attempts on goal. The Guwahati-based team found it extremely hard to get past Lajong’s defence and were losing the ball very easily and lacked focus and concentration.

Bipin Singh who failed to convert his chances in the first half made no mistake when provided the opportunity in the second half as he took a beautiful shot to give his team a 3-0 lead in the 64th minute. Captain Redeem Tlang also registered his name on the scoresheet in the 70th minute to make it 4-0 and put the game to bed.

With this win, the Junior Reds are sitting pretty at the top of the table with 12 points from four matches while Green Valley SC are at the bottom of the table with only one point earned from four games.

Shillong Lajong Junior Boys next match will be on March 11 against Royal Wahingdoh FC at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Shillong at 13.00 IST.
