Bengaluru FC showed India just why they are the best in the country when they notched an inspiring 2-1 win in extra time over Sporting Clube de Goa to finish the I-League with a win and 47 points at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, in Fatorda, Goa, on Monday.

The win meant Bengaluru kept intact their 100% win record in Goa while Pradhyum Reddy too earned his second win on the trot as coach in the absence of Ashley Westwood who is still serving a touchline ban and had to watch from the stands.

Boima Karpeh gave the hosts a 41st minute lead when he slammed home from 25 yards as Bengaluru were guilty of not finishing after coming close on a few occasions.

Things didn’t look as electric in at the start of the second half as Bengaluru would have wanted to. But just when the game was beginning to get listless, Robin Singh decided to bring things alive in the 59th minute. Beating the offside trap, Singh latched on to a pass by Johnson and smashed home from close to send the traveling fans into a rapture. The goal got both sides hungrier and attacks were met with swift counters.

Reddy made two changes in the space of four minutes and it was the second – Beingaichho on for CK Vineeth – that would give Bengaluru a win they deserved.

Sporting could have had the again when Ogba Kalu’s fierce shot was hit straight at goalkeeper Soram Poirei. The miss would make Sporting pay the very next minute when Beingaichho, found by Keegan’s cross, scored past ’keeper Ravi Kumar as the Bengaluru bench erupted in joy.

The team was handed the trophy post the game and Bengaluru FC’s treasured spoils will do the rounds of Bangalore city on a bus parade that kicks off at 16.00 IST followed by a ceremony at the Bangalore Football Stadium.
