The India U-14 Women’s national team has been training in the Preparatory Camp in Gandhinagar, Gujarat since March 10 for the forthcoming AFC U-14 Girls Regional Championship slated to be held in Kathmandu, Nepal from April 20 to 25, 2015. India have been clubbed in Group B along with Bhutan and Bangladesh.

With more than a week left for the camp to end (it ends on April 18, 2015), head coach Maymol Rocky spoke to AIFF Media about the team’s preparations, expectations, strengths and much more.

INTERVIEW

What are your expectations?
I haven’t pinned up any expectation on the players. On the contrary, I’ve told them to enjoy their football, follow the instructions and perform to the best of their abilities.

How does your preparation complement your expectations?
Everybody including the staff and the players are working hard for a common goal – that is to win the Championship. We are working hard on it and wish to make our country proud.

How do you describe your wards?
The players are a talented lot. They have immensely developed and have reciprocated positively to the training sessions. They are learning every day, and with the skills they possess they can go on to represent the national team in years to come.

What is the biggest strength of your team?
Working together as a unit is our biggest strength. If we play collectively we have the ability to showcase football in its beautiful passing form.

What do you think of India’s opponents?
We respect our opponents and we will not get complacent against them. At the same time we need to defeat them in order to achieve our target.

In 2014, India finished second to Nepal. Where do you see us finishing this time?
We are confident of our chances and we are positive that we can win the Championship this time around.
