Mumbai FC continued their good start to their season as they thumped PIFA Colaba 4-0 in a MDFA Elite Division match on Friday. New signing Malemnganba Meitei, who joined Mumbai from Bengaluru FC this season, was on song again, scoring twice in the first half.

Mumbai who were coming back from two consecutive victories from the first two league games, looked hungry to make it three in three. And wasting no time, they took the lead in the 6th minute, thanks to diminutive winger – Malem who hit a vicious free kick which rattled the underside of the bar and later landing in the net.

With the 3pm sun taking the shining bright and hard, it took a toll on the players as the game slowed down. Failing to make most of the quick start, PIFA Colaba looked to capitalize as two back to back corners to them.

Mumbai who enjoyed the lion’s share of possession, doubled their lead in the 21st minute after right back Srikant and winger Steven Benedic Dias combined well. Steven sent in an inch perfect cross for Malem to tuck it home.

With PIFA showing not much imputes in attack, even Mumbai took their foot of peddle.

Another free kick was awarded to Mumbai, this time it was Eric Brown who stepped up to take the kick. The Liberian hit the ball and low leaving no chance for the opposition keeper. It was smooth sailing for Mumbai at half time as the team led 3-0.

The second half started with Mumbai keeping most of the ball and playing it around the PIFA Colaba side. Midfielders Taisuke, Brown and Asif completely bossed the game creating chance after chance. So it was four, Sandesh Gadkari joining the party as he scored from a Taisuke assist in the 50th minute of the game.

There were no further goals but the game wasn’t short of actions. It was relentless Mumbai attacks which kept the PIFA defense occupied. Karan Sawhney was brought on for Sandesh Gadkari, early in the half. Karan who scored in the last game could have scored twice only for the ball to not to go in.

Mumbai went on to win another game, as the made three wins out of three in the MDFA Elite Division.
