Borussia Dortmund and FC Bayern Munich have reached an agreement on the transfer of Germany international Mario Götze. He is set to sign a deal subject to a medical which will keep him in Dormund till June 30, 2020.

Götze, who joined Bayern from Dortmund three years ago, said in an official statement on the Borussia Dortmund website: “It was a conscious decision when I moved to Bayern from BVB in 2013 and I don’t want to hide behind it. Three years later, at the age of 24 years, I look back at my decision with a different view. I understand that many fans didn’t relate to my decision. I wouldn’t take the same decision nowadays!”

“I would like to try to convince all people – especially those who won’t welcome me with open arms – with my performances. It is my goal to play my best football. For me and for everyone, the club and the BVB fans,” the 24 year old added.

“I’m personally very happy that Mario choose Borussia Dortmund. I had always the hope since he left has us in 2013 that he would return to the club one day,” Borussia Dortmund chairman Hans-Joachim Watzke told.

“The negotiations were very fair and serious. We’d like to thank Borussia Dortmund, Mario, his father as well as his agent for that,” said FC Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge in a statement by the Bavarian club. “I think the transfer is a good solution for all parties. FC Bayern thanks Mario Götze for three years wearing the Bayern shirt and wishes him all the best for the future.”

In his three seasons with Bayern Munich he won the Bundesliga three times (2014, 2015, 2016), the DFB-Pokal (German Cup) twice (2014, 2016), the FIFA Club World Cup (2013) and the UEFA Super Cup (2013).
