Defending Indian Super League champions Atlético de Kolkata have appointed former England international Teddy Sheringham as their new manager ahead of ISL-4.

51 year old London-born Teddy Sheringham is a former England striker having scored 11 goals in 51 international matches. He is best known for his time at Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United.

His coaching experience is limited having only coached English League Two side Stevenage for a few months after having been the attacking coach at West Ham United.

The announcement was made by ATK principle owner Sanjiv Goenka, who after their three years of having been Spanish have now decided to go the English way after the appointment of Ashley Westwood as technical director and now Teddy Sheringham as manager.

“I am glad to welcome our new coach Teddy Sheringham to ATK family and strongly believe that it is going to be an enriching experience for him and the boys. Our endeavour to retain expertise and map out a compact team structure has been enhanced with Sheringham joining the team this season,” Sanjiv Goenka said.

“One of the top goal scorers and an exceptional player himself I am hopeful Teddy will bring his fine planning skills to lead the way for ATK,” he said in a statement.

Meanwhile Teddy Sheringham said, “I am excited to be joining ATK and can’t wait to get started. Sanjiv Goenka has told me about the Indian Super League and it seems like a great place to follow your football dreams and ambitions.”
