Defending champions Chhinga Veng FC came out on top over Chanmari FC in the first-leg of the first semifinal of the Mizoram Premier League – Season 7.

A second half penalty from M.S. Dawngliana was the difference between them and two time champions Chanmari FC as they put themselves in the driving seat for a place in the final.

An even first half saw chances created few and far between as both teams opted for a cautious approach. They both canceled each other out in midfield as they looked to feel each other out.

The second half was a more open affair as Chhinga Veng FC created threats early on. Foreigner forward Gatch Arthur Diomande forced a save from Chanmari FC keeper Lalruatpuia while Lalromawia’s shot was blocked by Chanmari FC defender R. Lalawmpuia.

A handball from defender C. Muana inside his area resulted in a penalty which Chhinga Veng star man Dawngtea finished with applomb.

Chanmari FC went in search for an equaliser after going behind but the introduction of Laldampuia and Lalnunzama could not have a positive impact for them in the scoreline.

Things got worse when Jeremy Laldinpuia was sent off late on making it smooth sailing for Chhinga Veng FC in the first-leg.

In the second semifinal, I-League club Aizawl FC will take on Mizoram Police FC on Monday evening.
