Women’s Bundesliga (Allianz Frauen-Bundesliga) club SGS Essen has announced a contract extension with Ina Lehmann. The 28 year old midfielder signed a new contract which will keep her at the club until June 30, 2020.

Lehmann joined SGS Essen in 2009 and has been a vital part of the team since then. She has played 174 matches for Essen so far and captained the side in the last two seasons.

The experienced footballer is yet to feature for SGS Essen in the ongoing 2018/19 season due to a major ankle injury. Lehmann is expected to make her comeback in Februar.

“I’ve been with the club since 2009 and I’m proud to be part with this team for another year. This club is a matter close to my heart. We have a very, very good team with a lot of potential and many young talents. I’m very keen to accompany this journey,” Ina Lehmann told.

Philipp Symanzik, CEO, SGS Essen said: “Ina Lehmann represents this club in a way like very few people does at our club. Her boundless spirit and her attitude signify the mentality of the Ruhr Valley. We are very happy that she has decided to go forward with us and confess herself to the club. She is a great role model for the young players due to her leadership ability on and off the field. We hope to see Ina back on the pitch very soon.”
