Sporting events behind closed doors: Advise by Indian Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports

The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India has issud a guideline to all National Sports Federations (NSF) in the country in reaction to the coronavirus pandemia.

The Ministry has advised all federations to avoid all sporting events or to conduct them behind closed doors, if a cancelation is not possible.

“To deal with the Novel Corona Virus (COVID-19), the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare has issued advisories and advised the State Governments to take appropriate action under the Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897,” the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports stated in a letter to the Chief Secretaries of all the States / Uniton Territories and the Secretaries of Sports Departments of all States / Union Territories.

“You are advised to adhere to the advisories issued by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare and ensure that no public gathering takes places in any sporting event. In the event the sporting event cannot be avoided, the same could be done without allowing gathering of people, including spectators.”

The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has also forwarded a copy of a letter dated March 11, 2020 issued by the Bureau of Immigration regarding Visa restrictions related to COVID-19. Please click following link for further details:
