Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund have decided to turn their iconic stadium, the SIGNAL IDUNA PARK, into a Corona Treatment Centre with immediate effect.

The Treatment Centre will be located at the North Stand area of Germany’s biggest football stadium. It will provide medical aid to coronavirus patients and suspected cases, as well as for patients experiencing related complaints.

“Our stadium is the flagship of our city; it is a focal point for almost everyone in Dortmund and the surrounding area, and thanks to its technical, infrastructural and spatial qualities it is the ideal location to actively help people who have been infected with the coronavirus or who are experiencing related complaints such as respiratory problems and fever. It is our responsibility and our wish to do absolutely everything in our power to ensure these people get help. In the KVWL (Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians for Westfalen-Lippe), we have the perfect partner by our side to fight this battle successfully,” said Hans-Joachim Watzke (CEO) and Carsten Cramer (Managing Director) in a joint statementon the club website.

“The Treatment Centre shall complement outpatient medical care by ensuring that patients and suspected cases are treated, in a qualified manner, outside the practices of statutory general practitioners. At the same time, it may allow for possible infection chains to be broken because contact with other patients, doctors and staff in the individual medical practices is avoided. In the Centre, the severity of the illness shall be assessed by a doctor and a decision will then be taken as to whether the patient can be treated as an outpatient or needs to be transferred to a clinic. The patients shall also receive the required prescriptions there. The new treatment structures at SIGNAL IDUNA PARK are intended exclusively for patients who are suspected of having a COVID-19 infection or who are experiencing complaints that require treatment.” the club stated.

The Corona Treatment Centre at SIGNAL IDUNA PARK can be found on the fourth floor of the North Stand. It can be accessed from the forecourt of the stadium and will be well signposted for all to see. The Treatment Centre will be open every day between 12:00 CET and 16:00 CET, with no prior registration required.
