GFA Selection put five past Dempo College

GFA Selection scored a resounding 5-0 victory over S.S. Dempo College Panaji on Day 5 of the 1st GFA Inter College Women’s League. GFA Selection put up an impressive performance, much to the delight of the spectators gathered at the Goa University Ground.

GFA Selection started the game well with a clear intent of putting pressure on the opposition’s defence. Anline Fernandes broke the deadlock and opened the scoring for GFA Selection with a fine assist from captain Velanie Fernandes.

Dempo College pressed hard for an equalizer with Keenda D’Souza and Anushka D’Souza inspiring their team to push the ball forward. The half-time score read GFA Selection 1-0 Dempo College.

In the second half of play, GFA Selection were a different team with much more enthusiasm to score. Against the run of play, Velanie Fernandes unleased a powerful long range shot from the top of the box to make it 2-0.

For Dempo College, Chetna Tirodkar played well upfront and took a crack at goal on two occasions but to no success.

Cianna Lobo and Scindia Saundatikar kept pushing the ball forward for GFA Selection and a nice pass to the hardworking player Marlat Cardozo got GFA Selection their third goal. Marlat got another quick goal few minutes later to get her second goal and fourth goal for GFA Selection.

Sybyl Fernandes and Minella Rodrigues played well for Dempo College and tried to contain the quicker and much fitter GFA Selection players but to no luck.

GFA Selection got a penalty in the dying minutes and Rhea Noronha made no mistake from the spot kick to make it 5-0 as the final score in favour of GFA Selection.

The “Quadros Motors Player of the Match” award went to Marlat Cardozo of GFA Selection.

The GFA Inter College Women’s League will continue on Tuesday when College Quepem host Rosary College Miramar at DSYA Ground, Quepem. The kick-off is scheduled for 8.30 IST.
